Artist in Residence in Tuscany 2014
Returned from 3 months in italy, from late February to end of May soaking up the Beauty, culture, language and meeting some wonderful people and adventures! I was fortunate to have a 2 months as Artist in Residence in Bagni di Lucca in Northern Tuscany. Working in my studio along the main street, with the Lima river rushing by behind the building. I was working on large scale rolls of paper with acrylics to be able to work quickly and also be able to bring the work back in time to the States. Other artists working in studios next to me, we became good friends and had much fun together and also had wonderful conversations about our work. At the end of my stay, I had an open studio and poetry reading by Joseph Bottone and showing the work done in a fun informal style, hanging up with clothespins which inspired me to do a series of folded paper pieces thinking about the laundry lines everywhere in Italy. I have been fascinated by the laundry lines and their shadows photographing them for a while on different trips , resulting in this installation.
